Preparing Teachers

PEF recruits, prepares, and supports exceptional teachers

We provide rigorous preparation through real-world apprenticeship that develops teachers who are ready from day one, and we offer transformative professional development through self-directed global learning experiences that reignite passion and deepen practice.

Teacher Residency

Teacher Residency is a year-long program that prepares passionate adults to become highly effective, equity-focused educators through apprenticeship with experienced mentor teachers—earning a teaching license, Master's degree, and stipend while learning to teach in real classrooms.

Fund for Teachers awards grants of $5,000 for PreK-12 teachers to design and pursue self-directed professional learning experiences anywhere in the world—from studying marine biology in the Galápagos to exploring civil rights history in the American South—bringing transformative knowledge back to their students.
